How to create a high performance culture for a high performance team

In 10 years of leadership I would hold my hiring capabilities up against the best in the industry.

In that time I have only made one failed hire, and had only one unplanned leaver from those I hired.

Those that I have hired have gone on to have very successful careers, both in individual contributor roles and in leadership. I have had many who have gained accolades from the wider business, attended the various levels of “club”, and been chosen for talent development initiatives.

“His track record of creating high performing sales teams speaks for itself, not only is this recognised by the numbers that they deliver, but also by the amount of employees who develop/progress underneath him.”

Christian Holman, Account Executive, Dell Technologies

Yet if you were to ask my direct leaders about my interview technique they would say it was unconventional at best, and I certainly don’t use the usual corporate or so called best practice interview techniques.

“Gary has been one of the most incredible leaders I have ever worked for, and certainly contributed to the most memorable interview of my career to date! From that very first interview and interaction with Gary I knew that he was something special.”

Estee Parker-Johnson, Account Manager, Dell Technologies

Once I have brought the right people into the team I work hard to create a culture that they not only want to be part of but also find it hard to leave.

While you want people to develop and move on to bigger things you don’t want it to be an easy decision for them!

That said from day 1 in role I am asking my hires about their next role and working with them on a development plan, so that when it is time to move on it is planned, seamless and successful.

“His dedication to his team members and helping them to be the best they can be is unrivalled. As a leader he takes time to understand his team members goals & aspirations and will work with you as an individual to help you achieve your own greatness.”

Lauren Atkins, Account Director, Dell Technologies

If you are struggling to attract and develop “A players” in your business I can help you formulate a strategy to hire, develop and retain the very best in the industry – especially those deemed early career and therefore more difficult to determine their future potential.

Gary has a passion for supporting and developing talent, to create high performing sales teams – which I always felt in my time on his team.

Ewan McLaren, Account Executive, Dell Technologies

Let me demonstrate to you the proven foundations of creating and maintaining a high performance team inside a high performance culture.

“Gary has the ability to bring a team together like no other leader I have worked for. His ability to attract and retain diverse sales talent that will work well together and complement each other is something I admire most about his leadership skills. Our time as [a team] helped me achieve many of my personal and professional goals in life and Gary offered unwavering support throughout the entire journey”

Jennifer McWilliams, Account Executive, Dell Technologies
